DOCTOR COMMENTS

I met the Special Needs Active Parents Group in Dundalk within two months of its formation in 2004.

What impressed me most was the clear vision and dynamic energy of the group. Having worked in the area of Special Needs for approximately twenty five years I felt that the aims and objectives set out by the organisation reflected much of what I had learned during my years in this work. The first emphasis was on Early Intervention. The education of parents for the fulfillment of their role as the childs first educator. The primary objective was to help parents help their child reach his or her full potential.

Parent support and solidarity was to be established through social evenings and the production of a regular newsletter. Training was to be organised in First Aid, Manual Handling, and Swimming Helpers Course. A Special Needs playgroup was to be set up. In the short span of two years this has being achieved and much more besides.

It is my privilege to be associated with this enthusiastic organisation.
