Dear Board members, I am a second year student studying early childhood studies in UCC. One of my projects this year is to discuss the support structures which should be in place to support parents who have children with special needs, in the early years of the child's life (birth to 8 years)
I am asking for input from parents as to what they wish should be inplace, financial, support networks, more government aid etc. I would like to include the views of families who have children with special needs in my essay, obviously no names, or information regarding your personal situations would be included.
As I have no personal experience in this area I wish to get across the opinion of families, rather than my own waffle, I wish to know what YOU WANT, what YOU NEED, how you felt when you were told of your childs disability, the differnce your child has made in your life Pros and Cons.
Already I have discussed what structures are in place, but I now know many of them are unavailable to many families due to means testing etc. But what is in place and what is needed and wanted are two different things and I need your help to find out what is missing.
Thanking everyone in advance.
